American President Donald Trump and his administration manipulate information, to put it mildly. Wikipedia is highly honest, that is, as honest as honest for honest Wikipedia contributors.
According to The Washington Post:
The acting U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia sent a letter to the nonprofit that runs Wikipedia, accusing the tax-exempt organization of “allowing foreign actors to manipulate information and spread propaganda to the American public.”
Trump appointee Ed Martin, as acting U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, has done Wikipedia a favour among educated persons. Who can belief Martin’s nonsense except the un-educated, meaning the under-educated who have deliberately made themselves more ignorant in supporting the propaganda of Donald Trump. It does not take much education to see through the lies and misinformation.
Misinformation and disinformation are not interchangeable terms: misinformation can exist with or without specific malicious intent, whereas disinformation is distinct in that the information is deliberately deceptive and propagated, according to Wikipedia. Disinformation is misleading content deliberately spread to deceive people, or to secure economic or political gain and which may cause public harm. It is outright lies. This is what Martin has stated, lies, in saying: of Wikipedia, “allowing foreign actors to manipulate information and spread propaganda to the American public.” One could say it was disinformation, in that Wikipedia is only acting as an international player, and not the nationalist devise that Martin and Trump want it to be, and to pressure Wikipedia to be that devise it has falsely accused Wikipedia of being a tool of propaganda.
Lets be clear this is political reactionarism on behalf of the Trump administration. To quote the Wikipedia entry:
In politics, a reactionary is a person who favors a return to a previous state of society which they believe possessed positive characteristics absent from contemporary.[1] As a descriptor term, reactionary derives from the ideological context of the left–right political spectrum. As an adjective, the word reactionary describes points of view and policies meant to restore a status quo ante.
As an ideology, reactionism is a tradition in right-wing politics. It is an uneducated position to take. My plea is for persons to learn.
