Dear Councilors and State Members,
This is a conversation out in the community of the Southern Brisbane reigion on the Council’s and the State Government’s capacity to think on heritage issues at the standard of contemporary scholarship and education (bcc). The current Liberal-National-led Council and the Labor State Government is not only out of touch with their communities, but also with current knowledge in many areas of social policy. In this case, the decision of the State Government, re: CTS No. 12141/23 – Letter from the Minister for the Environment and the Great Barrier Reef, Minister for Science and Minister for Multicultural Affairs, and with the support of the Brisbane City Council (attached). My response in the field of critical heritage studies, backed by the evidence of the founder of the field, the late David Lowenthal:

Yes, Norm. Indeed, the slide-of-hand in the rhetorical response. And these ‘thinkers’ of government and bureaucracy need to be called out publicly and loudly on their falseness.

There are outright lies, but, being false, there is also hiding relevant truths in the state of affairs. This needs to be publicily stated, calling out the Brisbane City Council and the State Governement for their falsehood.

This is my challenge to the Councillors outside of the party with Council control (to: ward offices), and my challenge to the State Members outside of the government benches (to: parliamentary offices). You have an opportunity now for your electoral campaigns and for your other affiliated candidates’, or those you would otherwise wish to support, on Brisbane Southside. Do not wait until 2024. The community is hurting now. We need strong intellectual leadership.
