The TASA Sociology of Education special interest group is inviting expressions of interest for presentations in a symposium for Social Sciences Week called ‘Levelling the Field – how do diverse students negotiate education systems between constraints and opportunities?’
This half day event on 10 September will examine the current state of different education fields that make up the wider education system and consider how different students negotiate these spaces and manage transitions between them. It will ask who is succeeding, who is still being left behind and what are different ways we can think about what success looks like? Applying a sociological lens, it will consider educational fields including primary school, high school, vocational education and training, community education, Indigenous pedagogies and university education. Student diversity is considered with particular attention to LGBTIQ+ students, students with disabilities, low socioeconomic background students, regional students, students from culturally or linguistically diverse background and Indigenous students.
This will be a hybrid event primarily sponsored in Brisbane, with Sydney and Melbourne hubs.
The SIG would like to hear from interested researchers a 200 word proposal if they would like to present a paper or be part of a plenary panel session.
Expressions of Interest are due: Fri 5 July 2024
