Dear Colleagues,

Ingrid Moses messaged last night that John had died, after a long illness, although he was still quite sharp still in the last weeks and we had been messaging often. He was 91.

Quite upsetting for me as he was a constant support both academically and personally as I’ve known the family since high school days when Ingrid tutored me in German. While he could be acerbic at times and didn’t tolerate fools easily, he was unrelenting in the support of friends and the search for historical truth.

Regards, Peter.

Dear Colleagues, Peter and I were among John Moses’ keenest students. Peter having a special doctoral and post-doctoral scholar relationship. I engaged with John as a student and fellow scholar who engaged in his extraordinary knowledge beyond German history and Australian historiography, to fields of theology and the knowledge of religious affairs.

He will be deeply missed by the Australian intellectual communities.
