Even though I do not put much weight on the numbers in my scholarship, The University of Queensland keeps wanting to use the numbers in its public relations exercises, and dismisses that something really bad has happened in Queensland education in the last 30 years. Thus, I am forced to make an argument on The Times Higher Education Supplement statistics for the 2024 University Impact Rankings.

  1. The University of Queensland is not ranked in the top hundred, when including fields of history, philosophy and theology, law, and medicine-dentistry;
  2. The fields of history, philosophy and theology, law, and medicine-dentistry make no difference in comparative rankings for The University of Queensland;
  3. Other, smaller, less-privileged, less-resourced Queensland universities do better in the rankings than The University of Queensland.

My best educated guess for the numbers on point 3), is that the other Queensland universities value their human assets better and employ or contract those at the cutting-edge level of learning.
