Dear Minister,
I am writing to formally present a suite of transformative curriculum packages developed by the Management Institute for Contributory Economy (MICE) in collaboration with international partners. These programs are designed to remediate the “techné mindset”—a cognitive pathology that currently prioritizes narrow instrumental efficiency and quantifiable data over the comprehensive social reality of our students. Our objective is to move Queensland education beyond the limiting “job-ready” paradigm toward Aristotelian flourishing (eudaimonia) and the restoration of human authorship over technical systems.
The Overall Pitch: A Contributory Corrective for Queensland
Queensland’s educational history has frequently been characterized by “Historical Forgetfulness” and a pragmatic turn that favors vocational fitness over deep intellectual inquiry. This has led to a state of “denoetization”—the mechanical liquidation of the human capacity for judgment. MICE offers an “intellectual immune system” to combat this regression by integrating philosophy, history, and sociology into the core of student development. Our curricula empower students as “transformative intellectuals” who are not merely passive conduits for information but proactive authors of their own narratives.
Curriculum Summaries for Selection
- The Whole Concept of Thought Community Education
Developed in collaboration with the Free Thinker Institute (New York), this 42-lesson curriculum provides a comprehensive map of the human mind. It systematically explores Awareness, Consciousness, and Self-Worth, utilizing the Five Intentions framework (Self, Mind, Reason, Utility, and Love) to foster a balanced worldview. The program uses common-point semantic consensus to ensure students can navigate complex belief systems and achieve “Sufficient Comprehension”.
- Global People
This curriculum investigates the architecture of our collective narrative, helping students navigate the “Umbrella Systems of Thought”—Conservative, Liberal, Radical, and Counter-Radical. It challenges the “atomization of knowledge” by linking local struggles in Brisbane and Queensland to global theoretical frameworks. Students learn to distinguish between thin abstract labels and the “thick ethical concepts” that anchor human values across diverse cultures.
- On Creativity & Innovation (Unit 05)
This unit targets the current dependency on the technological agenda. It teaches students to distinguish between “techne” (mechanical reproduction) and “creativity” (human authorship). Innovation is reframed as a “Contributory Corrective” that seeks to improve Substantial Fairness within the community rather than pursuing purely pecuniary profit.
Sample Year 7 Pedagogical Integration
Accompanying this proposal are sample Year 7 Lesson Plans designed to transition students from a “Junior” mindset of unreflective automaticity to a “Senior” state of social accountability.
- The Spiral of Choice: Students utilize the POLICE model (Philosophically Ontology Logic Intersect Compatibility Education) to “police” their own thoughts and filter out manufactured myths.
- Thinking as Caring (Panser): Lessons emphasize that cognition is not just a calculation but a procedural kindness that protects human dignity from the “drone-isation” of the workforce.
These curricula represent a move toward Digital Humanism, ensuring that the “Who” of the person remains the master of the “What” of our technical systems. I welcome the opportunity to discuss how these materials can be integrated into the Queensland P-12 system to foster a more just and communicative society.
