21st Century Revolution in Thinking
Abstract
The transition into the second quarter of the 21st century is marked by a profound intellectual shift—a “new thinking” that seeks to reclaim human agency from the “technical abyss” and the “immense regression” of the post-truth era. This paradigm, increasingly defined as “Digital Humanism,” moves beyond the 20th-century preoccupation with purely formal logic or mechanistic behaviourism toward a humanistic discipline that prioritizes truthfulness, historical self-understanding, and intersubjective mutuality. Central to this movement is the reinvention of the philosophical task of thinking (penser) as caring (panser), the procedural necessity of tending to the wounds of a fragmented society. By replacing the “coldness of calculation” with rational-critical communication, this new thinking aims to foster a Contributory Economy where human authorship determines the direction of social evolution. This essay explores the contours of this 21st-century ascent, details how it serves as an immunity system against the “banality of evil,” and provides a methodological roadmap for the lifelong learner navigating this complex historical terrain.
