Neville,
This email is to formally advise you that your ongoing email behaviour is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. It must stop.
In February 2024 the PHA warned you about this, and other unacceptable behaviours. Your incessant email campaigns reflect badly on yourself and the PHA cannot support or condone them. A record of your outrageous volume of traffic to the PHA president’s email address alone shows almost 390 emails sent by you since March 2024.
Your conduct in email to PHA representatives, as well as to members of other organisations, breaches these sections of the PHA Code of Ethics:
- GENERAL CONDUCT
2.1 Members are obliged to accept the standards, endorsed by Professional Historians Australia, and to accept the self-imposed disciplines of their profession.
2.2 In their professional role, members should at all times be courteous and considerate to others.
2.4 Members should not publicly question the integrity or competence of their colleagues. Complaints of this kind should be directed to the Executive of their Professional Historians Association.
2.5 Members who make statements and recommendations, express opinions and give evidence, should do so objectively and truthfully, and on the basis of adequate research.
Unless your email is about a legitimate and reasonable PHA membership or operational issue, you must immediately stop emailing all current and former PHA office bearers’ email addresses and their personal addresses, both national and branch-based, as well as all PHA members. We also expect you to exercise restraint and courtesy when contacting other organisations and agencies.
This is your final warning. If you do not comply, disciplinary action will follow and the PHA will cancel your accredited membership.
Please respond in writing by 31 December 2025, stating that you agree to abide by the directions laid out in this letter.
Jeff Hopkins-Weise
President
Please note that the PHA President’s inbox is only monitored on a voluntary and irregular basis only.
