Abstract

This essay examines the arrogance inherent in contemporary cultural warfare, specifically through the lens of the frequent confusion between Christian Progressivism and Christian Realism. Drawing on source material from the Sea of Faith debates and Dr. Neville Buch’s Dynamic of Cognition (DoC) framework, the paper argues that cultural warriors often employ “arrogant dismissal” and “rhetorical tricks” to avoid engaging with the complexity of political theology. By conflating progressivism with failed economic prognostications, these actors succumb to a “techné mindset” that prioritizes immediate political victory over truth and truthfulness. The essay posits that the solution lies in a move toward Communicative Action, where “Honest Communication” replaces strategic manipulation, allowing for a “Balanced and Comprehensive” worldview that facilitates Aristotelian flourishing rather than the “authoritarianism of the stupid”.
