Abstract
Thinking surrounding Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) is currently divided into three distinct cognitive modalities: Panic, Fashion, and Intellectual reflection. Panic thinking utilizes the “paranoid style,” casting A.I. as a looming existential threat that mirrors historical fears of total domination and the erasure of human plurality. Fashion thinking treats A.I. as a project of “liquid modernity,” emphasizing “McDonaldized” principles of efficiency, predictability, and consumer-driven identity construction. In contrast, Intellectual thinking—framed through Dr. Neville Buch’s “Digital Humanism”—seeks to remediate these pathologies through “Spiral Historiography,” reintegrating A.I. into a holistic framework of “human authorship” and the “Five Intentions” of intelligence. This essay utilizes the “Dynamic of Cognition” (DoC) to map these shifts, arguing that A.I. must be understood as an extension of interpersonal knowledge rather than a mechanistic “power-over” the human condition.
