Abstract

This essay examines the causal link between the decline of Australian churches and the systematic adoption of the American Revivalist Tradition (ART), as forewarned by Dr. Neville Buch in his 1995 doctoral research. It argues that the transition from a British-oriented  “clerical Enlightenment”  to a mechanized American model of faith has induced a state of  “Historical Forgetfulness” and  “institutional arrogance”  within the Australian religious landscape. By prioritizing religious indoctrination and treating education as an  “ideological weapon” for institutional survival, Australian denominations have succumbed to a  “mechanical techné mindset” that liquidates genuine spiritual and historical authorship. Utilizing the Dynamic of Cognition (DoC) framework, the analysis demonstrates how this regression into simplistic literalism and anti-intellectualism has rendered local churches unable to engage with a secular, pluralistic society, leading to their contemporary marginalization.
