Dear Lord Mayor,
I have a message that must be acknowledged. And better that it is engaged in. In essence, Dr. Buch’s practice offers a sophisticated form of consultancy, research, and education that links high-level global philosophical and cognitive theory directly to the local social, economic, and organizational imperatives. He explicitly states that his professional service should be paid for, instructing readers to “Employ him or contract him”.

Abstract: The Mapping Brisbane for the World Project (MBH) is a digital historiographical initiative rooted in the belief that “Understanding history is philosophy in practice”. Originating as the Brisbane Southside History Project, the MBH seeks to provide an academically robust, public-facing resource detailing the complex development of Brisbane’s intellectual and physical landscape. Operating on a Dynamic of Cognition methodology, the project deliberately links local historical knowledge (the Local) to global theoretical frameworks (the Global) in order to overcome the pervasive intellectual deficiencies in Queensland society, such as parochialism and unimaginative cognition. By compiling and spatially representing 100 years of institutions of Belief, Thinking, Knowledge, Education, and Scholarship, the MBH challenges the historically entrenched preference for narrow, functional views of governance and education, advocating instead for a comprehensive, politically engaged, and development-oriented model of Digital Humanism.
Executive Summary (in part):
The Mapping Brisbane History Project (MBH), directed by Dr. Neville Buch and supported by the Management Institute for Contributory Economy (MICE), represents an essential, academically robust intervention into Brisbane’s prevailing intellectual and administrative environment. This endeavour is founded on the core philosophical mandate that “Understanding history is philosophy in practice”, a conviction that positions historical inquiry as the necessary corrective to chronic societal and governmental deficiencies.
This submission contends that stable, sustained funding from the Brisbane City Council (BCC) for MBH and the intellectual infrastructure provided by MICE is not merely a request for a community grant, but an urgent investment required to:
- Correct Brisbane’s Chronic Cognitive Failures: Systematically address the pervasive “techné” mindset in governance that substitutes complex reality for simplistic data, propagating a “false narrative” of economic and political life.
- Validate Good Governance and Community Education: Utilise the MBH’s rigorous methodology—the Dynamic of Cognition—to transcend parochialism and deliver a detailed, transparent, and comprehensive historical geography tool for Digital Humanism.
- Address the Inexcusable Lack of Intellectual Access: Counter the historical marginalisation of scholarly inquiry by providing accessible, professionalised history that links the local experience of contested spaces and institutions directly to global themes of social justice and democratic participation.
By the way, MICE and I are still performing rather well on the international stage. This before I put the essay, plea, proposal on the international stage:

We will see the numbers rise again. But I am still in poverty, and I am waiting for your decision. The world is watching.
