THE POLITICS OF QUORA: INTRODUCTION
Material Heritage and Appearance, Tourism, Literature, Art, Ideology, Perception, Language, Geography, Culture, and Judgement.
This series, titled “The Politics of Quora Series Structure” (No. 1-6), comprises six distinct teaching documents authored by Dr. Neville Buch, a Professional Historian, dedicated to the principle that “understanding history is philosophy in practice”. The series embarks on a unique and timely exploration of fundamental philosophical concepts by analysing anonymous quotations drawn from the Quora platform between 2017 and 2025.
Each document in the series centres on a pivotal historical philosopher: Aristotle on Heritage, Plato on the Social, Michel de Montaigne on Travel and Culture, Immanuel Kant on Knowing, John Locke on Person, and Hannah Arendt on Life. Through this lens, the series develops repeated thematic discussions on crucial contemporary issues such as Material Heritage and Appearance, Tourism, Literature, Art, Ideology, Perception, Language, Geography, Culture, and Judgement.
The “Politics of Quora” framework serves as a platform to critically engage with public cognition and the evolution of ideas within modern online discourse. This approach reflects Dr. Buch’s broader intellectual project, which includes concepts like “spiral historiography”—a non-linear understanding of history that interprets ancient texts with modern inclusivity to reveal enduring patterns. By juxtaposing classical philosophical thought with everyday online expressions, the series aims to foster “rational-critical communication” and a deeper understanding of politics in an era characterized by “vague definitions and practices” and the challenges of misinformation. Ultimately, this collection invites readers to engage in “collegial, critically and creative philosophy, globally read and tested for fit in the horizon worldviews”, thereby contributing to a more nuanced appreciation of humanistic reason and its relevance in our conflicted times.
