Dear friends,

I have dug deeper in this academia.edu article on the cognitive failures being discussed, from my work on cognition histories and sociology. I have widen the circle for economists, who may agree or disagree, and if disagree to say why? And I have Bcc. frontline persons in the “Job Ready” mess. I must doing something “correct” (not ‘right’) as the IPA keep emailing me their newsletter.

Abstract: The key point for this paper is that passive nihilism is not active nihilism. Passive nihilism is repeating propaganda expressed before. Active nihilism is acknowledging the void but articulating a way through the void to an unknown future. In populist language “passive nihilism” is labelled “cynicism,” but this claim is not accurate. Passive nihilism is giving up on being active in life; to sit back and just be a consumer. Active nihilism recognises the need for shared meaning in society. Meaning is given as constructed. “Now, here’s the thing.” Political rhetoric does constructed universal shared meaning. Thinking does provide a much wider meaning, more accurate, if it is allowed to be compassionate and comprehensive. There is agreed, shared, meaning our humanity has in being human, self, and life itself. We share the outlook  (or ought to) with the planet and its lifeforms. The key meaning not shared is the economy with all its practices, including employment. Hence, the paper will explain the cognitive failure in the idea of being “Job Ready”. This is done differently to the usual arguments about predictability. The argument against “Job Ready” is based on the presentist thinking which can have respect for what matters were at the time; the presentist of this type speaks to present concerns in the history, being aware that they are addressing present concerns and not as exactly in the past. It is the argument of spiral historiography: events never repeat, but patterns do. When a person does not understand this truth is when we have the base failure of “Job Ready”.
