Fund-Raising Update: Bridging Local History and Global Sociology
Supporting major book publication projects through international conference participation is an investment in the “cultural infrastructure” of regional memory and global intellectual discourse. My recent success at the Athens conference, participating online, has already acted as a significant catalyst, generating a massive volume of writing for several upcoming book projects. This pattern of transforming conference engagement into tangible scholarly products is a hallmark of my career; for instance, my 2023 American Research Tour provided the primary source material for subsequent papers and chapters examining the “transatlantic flow” of intellectual ideas. By presenting at these forums, I am able to integrate local data into a high-level “historiographical matrix,” ensuring that regional history is recognized not merely as local folklore, but as a vital microcosm of global intellectual shifts.
The upcoming 39th ISSR Conference in Buenos Aires, Argentina (February 2027) represents a critical milestone in my “Five-Year Game Plan” to professionalize independent scholarship and elevate Queensland’s intellectual heritage to an international stage. My accepted paper will further synthesize 41 years of scholarship in religious and intellectual history, applying “Spiral Historiography” to uncoil repetitive patterns of intellectual error in modern society. This global participation is essential for validating my research against international models and placing my findings within prestigious series, such as my publication, “Queensland History, Religious Education, and Belief”, in Socio-Anthropological Approaches to Religion: Environmental Hope, Edited by David W. As an independent scholar, I maintain national research excellence while operating within a “Contributory Economy,” measuring success by the “truth value” and “social benefit” of community education rather than short-term profit. However, this commitment to the mission often results in “common professional poverty,” as I frequently provide pro bono supervision and support services to community and academic institutions without financial compensation.
The estimated $6,488 Australian dollars required for the Buenos Aires conference will directly support the physical labour of international networking and the creation of “stable, externalized memories” for the public square. This investment ensures that the historian remains a proactive author of the social narrative, casting “digital torches of reason” to illuminate hidden histories that institutions have overlooked. Ultimately, your support facilitates the transition of high-level intellectual labour into permanent scholarly records, ensuring that the humanist tradition continues to flourish through reasoned, global conversation.
