I am pleased to share the closing installment of the HAPI Past Series, titled “Historiography in the Distant Past and the Philosophy of (Peter) Nicholas Tarling and Others in The University of Queensland Pre-1980.”
This series will soon conclude my recent research into the former Department of History (1911–2000) and the legacy of the School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry. This second final paper explores the “intellectual historians” of the pre-1980 era—including Nicholas Tarling and D.P. Singhal, and Malcolm Thomis—examining the transition from the “conservative whig tradition” to modern revisionist history.
Thank you for following this series as I continue working toward a comprehensive publication on UQ’s departmental history. The last paper in the series will summarize HAPI historiography.
