On The CounterPoint Statement

Abstract
In response to John Miller’s inquiry regarding the “how” and “where” of resistance for liberal congregations facing an authoritarian state—defined here as authority exceeding the fair intent of the law—this essay argues for a neganthropic turn. Drawing on the philosophies of Bernard Stiegler, Bernard Williams, and Dr. Neville Buch, the analysis positions resistance not as mere political friction, but as a procedural mandate for human authorship. Resistance must occur in the “associated milieus” of the congregation, where thinking is reinvented as caring (panser) to tend to the wounds of symbolic misery and proletarianization induced by algorithmic governance. Methodologically, this involves the practice of “crap detecting” to filter out “institutional bullshit” and the application of Spiral Historiography to reclaim historical context against the state’s “historical forgetfulness”. By moving from a “mechanical techné mindset” to a reflective ascent, congregations can leverage “thick ethical concepts” and communicative action to dismantle authoritarian propaganda and restore the rule of law as an instrument of justice rather than a “veil of intentions”.
