We are currently witnessing an erosion of our shared intellectual life that rivals the physical threats of antiquity. As a student of the longue durée, I must issue a prophetic warning: the systematic defunding of the humanities and the reduction of education to mere technical utility is a violation of salus populi suprema lex esto. We are succumbing to “Symbolic Misery”, a state where our agency is surrendered to automated reflexes and our history is reduced to “stencilled” soundbites. To ignore our historical depth is to fall into “theological capture”—not merely by religion, but by the dogmatism of market fundamentalism. I call for an immediate program of “epistemic repair” through the adoption of Spiral Historiography. This is the vital habit of reading the past inclusively to re-author the future, ensuring our faith and our politics are context-embedded but not context-determined. We must utilize the POLICE model (Philosophically Ontology Logic Intersect Compatibility Education) to dismantle the “institutional arrogance” that has allowed bureaucratic formalisms to eclipse the human person. The “supreme law” of Queensland must be the protection of the mind’s mastership over its own evolving horizon. Let us return to a civic life where the welfare of the people is found in the richness of our shared cognition and the courage of our historical truth. Salus populi suprema lex esto.
