Uncoiling the Reactionary Mind Historiography and Cognitive Reform
Abstract
This essay delineates the cognitive and historical process required to remediate reactionary thought, defined here as a systemic intellectual stasis rooted in “Historical Forgetfulness” and the “techné mindset”. Using the socio-intellectual history of Queensland as a case study—specifically the transition from the populist patronage of the Bjelke-Petersen era to the professional accountability of the Goss administration—the analysis identifies three key mechanisms for stopping reactionary regression: the “uncoiling” of repetitive errors through Spiral Historiography, the restoration of individual judgment through noetic action, and the achievement of “Verstehen” (empathetic understanding). Ultimately, stopping reactionary thought requires a developmental ascent from a “Junior” mindset of unreflective execution to a “Senior” state of social accountability, whereby human authorship is reclaimed over technical and political narratives.
