Dear Friends,
Abstract
This essay provides a critical evaluation of Sophia Corwin’s 2026 article, “The Epistemic Poverty of Suburban Quixotism,” arguing that Corwin’s response to Dr. Neville Buch constitutes a “bizarre” rhetorical performance that substitutes personal mockery for scholarly engagement. While Corwin attempts to “eviscerate” Buch’s work as “AI-slop” and “academic vacuity,” she systematically ignores over thirty years of documented archival research, a 1995 PhD from the University of Queensland, and extensive peer-reviewed publications in established history journals. By fixating on Buch’s suburban location and utilizing “AI forensics” to dismiss his humanity, Corwin illustrates the very “denoetization”—the liquidation of individual judgment—that Buch’s framework seeks to remediate. Ultimately, Corwin’s critique is identified as a “self-sealing” polemic that avoids the “thick” historical evidence of the Queensland Cabinet minutes and the complex statistical datasets Buch has produced.
