Abstract:

This essay explores the cognitive and sociological limitations that prevent a comprehensive understanding of reality, even when an individual “sees” and interprets the world through a distinct perspective. Drawing on Dr. Neville Buch’s Dynamic of Cognition (DoC) and the philosophical frameworks of Bernard Williams, Hannah Arendt, and Bernard Stiegler, the analysis identifies four primary filters—prejudice, attitudes, typologies of value, and exclusion—that constrain human intellect. While perspectivism is an inherent condition of human life, it often degrades into a state of “symbolic misery” or “historical forgetfulness” when individuals fail to engage in reflective self-criticism. By unmasking these barriers through “crap detecting” and a commitment to truthfulness and sincerity, the individual can move from being a “puny human node” in a technical system toward reclaiming human authorship and achieving Aristotelian flourishing.
