By investigating the foundational principles of both ancient and modern thought, Ralph Cudworth seeks to prove that “Intelligence itself” is the primary reality from which all finite minds and material forms are derived. This summary explores his critique of materialistic reductionism and his advocacy for a “Plastic Life of Nature” that harmonizes divine providence with natural laws.
This essay explores the cognitive and institutional disconnect between the seventeenth-century philosophical defence of “True Intelligence” by Ralph Cudworth and the contemporary marginalization of intellectual historians, such as Dr. Neville Buch, within the outer circle of the modern universities.
