Abstract:
On active nihilism. “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever,” (Isaiah 40:8) but as Bernard Williams points out the idea of a “Universal Word” has to be replaced by a deed, whether made profound or mundane, in our post-Christian state of affairs. Ultimately, in both life and death, what can be said of each person, is the “possession” or “ownership” via memory and ‘legacy’, which is made both profound and mundane from perspective. This is the value which is conditioned in the memory of those who will exist and make each person history.
